PE Opportunities
Public engagement with research can be achieved through a number of methods and techniques. Reflecting on your aims and your audience can help to determine the format that will suit your project’s needs. There are countless public engagement opportunities throughout the year that you can join, or the public engagement team is on hand to support you to develop an independent project. For inspiration, head to King’s Imaging blog where researchers who have done public and patient engagement write about their experiences.
Public engagement opportunities
The PE team organise a variety of public engagement opportunities over the year that are open for anyone to get involved in.
Twilight Gardening
Would you like to join local community members to discuss health and nature, take part in gardening activities and eat together? This is an opportunity to build trust and relationships with our local communities in an informal setting. You will have space to connect with the lived health experiences of people in our local area, share your health knowledge and explore these together.
The first session will be on 13th September, 5 – 7.30pm
Science Gallery London – Artificial Intelligence & Ethics season 2023
Science Gallery London is a place to grow ideas across the arts, sciences and health.
From June 2023 – January 2024, the AI & Ethics season AI: Who’s looking after me? takes a questioning and playful look at the ways artificial intelligence is already shaping so many areas of our lives – from our healthcare and justice systems to how we look after our pets. Who holds the power, who distributes the benefits, and who bears the burden of existing AI systems? Can we rely on these technologies for our wellbeing and happiness?
If you are interested in getting involved or want to find out more, please email alice.taylor-gee@kcl.ac.uk

KERN
The King’s Engaged Research Network (KERN) is an exciting collaboration. They foster a growing community of researchers interested in developing sharing and celebrating their public engagement practice at King’s. The KERN activities are aimed at researchers, clinical and technical staff and postgraduate students at King’s College London.
KERN is for researchers interested in engaging different audiences with their research. They also share monthly newsletters which detail opportunities to get involved, information on funding, resources, and sharing good practice. Sign up to receive the KERN newsletter, follow them on @KingsEngages and keep an eye out for the next training session.
There are lots of other online public engagement activities and events taking place across the UK for staff & students to get involved in. Take a further look here.
To keep up to date with even more public engagement opportunities sign up to the King’s Engaged Researcher Newsletter and the Centre for Medical Engineering mailing list.
